Your device is worth a try.

Heart-rate capture is optional and still experimental. If your watch or sensor can share live heart rate over Bluetooth, there is a good chance Bloom can connect to it.

Try Bloom

Start with what you have.

Not on the list? It may still work. Trying is quick, and you will know as soon as Bloom finds a live signal.

Bloom listens for the standard Bluetooth Heart Rate service used by many chest straps, armbands, and watches. It also includes a dedicated connection for the Garmin vívosmart 4.

Some watches need Heart Rate Broadcast, Heart Rate Push, Share HR, or a workout turned on first. Firmware can change this behavior, which is why the list below is a starting point—not a closed compatibility list.

A few strong places to start.

This list mirrors the devices Bloom knows how to guide you through in the product. The labels separate direct Bloom testing from manufacturer-documented broadcasting and more experimental possibilities.

If you already own something else, try that before buying anything.

Apple Watch is worth a try.

Some Bloom users have connected an Apple Watch through HeartCast. This path is experimental rather than Bloom verified, and reliability can vary.

Get HeartCast from the App Store
  1. 1

    Open HeartCast

Install HeartCast on your Apple Watch, then open it there.

  2. 2

    Start broadcasting

Press Start on your Apple Watch to begin a workout and Bluetooth broadcast. Keep HeartCast open on the watch while connecting.

  3. 3

    Choose HeartCast in Bloom

Use Bloom in Chrome or Edge on a Mac or Windows computer, or Chrome on Android, and select HeartCast from the browser’s Bluetooth picker.

Open Bloom on the screen that suits you.

Bloom can pair from a compatible browser on a phone or tablet, or on a Mac or Windows computer. Its browser-based design does not mean you need a laptop.

Your browser will ask you to choose and approve the device. Bloom cannot connect without that permission. If its device picker does not appear, try a browser that supports Web Bluetooth on your device.

  1. 1

    Bring it close

Make sure Bluetooth is on and your device is charged and nearby.

  2. 2

    Open Bloom

Choose “Connect your heart-rate device” and ask Bloom to look nearby.

  3. 3

    Choose your device

Select its name in the browser’s Bluetooth picker and let Bloom connect.

Choose your screen before you pair.

Bloom works in modern browsers for logging sessions, viewing history, and exploring your patterns. The optional Bluetooth heart-rate connection needs a browser that supports Web Bluetooth.

For the smoothest setup, use Chrome or Edge on a Mac or Windows computer, or Chrome on Android.

Mac, Windows, and ChromeOS

Heart rate supported

Use a current version of Chrome or Edge. Safari on Mac and Firefox do not currently provide the Bluetooth connection Bloom needs.

Android

Heart rate supported

Use a current version of Chrome. Your phone will ask you to choose and approve the nearby heart-rate device.

iPhone and iPad

Heart rate not supported yet

You can still use Bloom for sessions, history, and insights. For Bluetooth heart rate today, use a Mac or Windows computer with Chrome or Edge, or an Android phone with Chrome. There is a path forward being explored.

Browser capabilities change over time. Bloom checks your browser before pairing and will let you know when the Bluetooth connection is unavailable.

The easiest answer is your own device.

Open Bloom and try connecting it. If it does not appear, turn on its heart-rate sharing or workout mode and try once more.
